SIMPLIFYING DOLBY SYSTEMS WITH CRYSTAL VISION'S NEW HD SYNCHRONISER
SYNNER-E HD has been designed to simplify system designs for those working in HD or SD Dolby E environments. Not only does it combine a video synchroniser, tracking audio delay, embedder, de-embedder and audio processor on one 100mm x 266mm board, it also includes special features for flexible processing of Dolby E and can combine this with standard AES audio.
With the ability to both sychronise incoming video signals which are not locked to the local reference and compensate for timing delays within the video system, the excellent synchroniser features include allowing any timing difference, quick recovery of input timing and the ability to cross-lock allowing an HD or SD input to be referenced to either HD tri-level syncs or SD Black and Burst. SYNNER-E HD powerfully synchronises at three separate points in the vertical interval which allows it to avoid picture disturbances for switches on the input that are between sources mistimed by several lines.
By fitting the standard Crystal Vision piggybacks to the motherboard SYNNER-E HD can include an audio embedder or de-embedder for analogue, digital or Dolby E audio. Dolby E can either come into SYNNER-E HD embedded on the video input or as external audio via an HD-DIP2 piggyback where it gets its timing either from the external reference or the input video. Up to two sources of Dolby E are possible: two channels from two embedded audio groups in the video, two channels from two input piggybacks or a mixture of the two.
If the Dolby E is locked to the input it will be delayed and timed so that the Dolby E data is correctly aligned with the video frame to ensure the guardband is in exactly the correct place - the first Crystal Vision product to do this and meeting the strict requirements now recommended by Dolby to allow many more stages of processing. This is true even if the engineer has two Dolby E sources with different timings as they can be re-aligned up to 3ms. It is also possible to fit output piggybacks to de-embed the same audio that was originally embedded. If the external Dolby E is locked to the reference it is assumed to be correctly timed and is embedded to the output of the SYNNER-E HD.
SYNNER-E HD features sophisticated audio routing with a 16 x 8 mono router which allows both channel shuffling and replace. As an audio processor SYNNER-E HD offers individual gain control on each mono channel as well as stereo to mono conversion.
Shipping now, SYNNER-E HD can be used with two frame rear modules (the RM33 and RM39), and offers the full set of control options. |
